Night Tasting
The Balkans
Thursday May 2,
2013
Knights of
Equity Hall, Millvale PA
7:00
Milko Miladinov,
wine consultant with Winebow, Inc.,
will be guiding us through our tasting of the Balkans. If you’ll recall, he presented the Sardinian
wines for AWS Pittsburgh last year, and was quite a success.
We
are limiting the number of attendees to 50.
After the cut-off date for reservations, which is April 25, 2013, we
will accept guests, if we have the availability. Make
your MEMBER reservations EARLY!
Leeanna Ryba will be the coordinating host for the tasting, but she will have many “cooks” to provide us with the tasty treats that we’ve grown to expect. After a sneak peek at the menu, I can vouch for the “tasty” part!

Une
très bonne soirée!
Merci
beaucoup to John Eld for his informative and entertaining presentation on the wines
of the Bourgogne. And, thanks to Matt
and Carol Kristofik for the wonderful food.
I had never tasted jambon persillé (parsley and ham terrine), and it was
fantastic. It was very nice to share our
tasting with some new members, and a few guests. All in all, très sublime.
I
wonder, sometimes, if we appreciate the many and varied talents of our
members. We are fortunate to belong to a
group that demonstrates so many ways to enjoy the pleasures and ambience of
good wine, good food and good friends.
Speaking
of wine (how unusual!), if you’re interested in wine events other than our
monthly tastings, log onto www.localwineevents.com. There you can register for email alerts of
wine events in our area, or many other regions.
Registering is very simple, and they don’t sell your email address to
other sites. It’s a great way to stay up
to date on the news of the Grape!
The
May Nationality Night will be our last formal
meeting until September. (There will be
a summer picnic, of course.) We need
additional hosts for the October 10 and November 14th tastings. Brittany and Tim Altimus are your hosts for
the October Finger Lakes tasting, but they also pour, so they will need some
assistance. For the November tasting, Bev Wise and Irving Eisley have
volunteered, but they would like to have co-hosts. In short, we need some
volunteers. Remember: Volunteering isn't
just for celebrity convicts!
That’s
all for now, my friends. Aging like a
fine wine requires a lot of time lying down, so I think I’ll go and take my nap
now.
