Upcoming Summer Field Trip and New Meeting Location News!

 Mazzotta Winery Summer Field Trip!

Wednesday, August 10

Happy mid-summer AWS Pittsburgh members and friends! The Board has been planning behind the scenes and we have a fun field trip planned to Mazzotta Winery in Gibsonia on Wednesday, August 10  from 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. If you would like to attend our informal gathering, feel free to come anytime within those hours.

Mazzotta Winery offers small batch, craft wines that go back more than 30 years when Frank Mazzotta first started helping his dad using the same time-honored traditions from his grandfather in Southern Italy.  You are invited to experience a small, family-owned winery in a relaxed atmosphere. Massotta's offers small plates to accompany the wine and Adrian's Pizza is located in the same building.

We hope you can join us to reconnect and relax for this field trip.

BIG NEWS!
AWS Pittsburgh Chapter Meeting Venue Update

The AWS Pittsburgh Chapter has been meeting at Evergreen Community Park for a number of years and it has been a good place to gather, however the venue isn't ideal for us to provide the type of programs we would like to host in the future.

During our programs in late 2021 and early 2022 we had to cut off registration to many of our programs because they were full with just 25-30 participants. We are hoping to grow our chapter and to also be able to invite friends or family that might be curious about our educational and fun events.

In the coming year and beyond, we hope to bring in dynamic presenters that will share their knowledge of wine, wine-making and will provide demonstrations that allow us to hone our tasting skills.  The AWS Pittsburgh Chapter Board came up with a list of criteria that our  venue would need to offer: meeting space for at least 50 participants, a good sound system, WiFi internet access, a spacious and updated meeting room that also has a kitchen and ample parking spaces with an easy entry. Guess what!!!??? We found the venue that checks all of those boxes and is located about 6 miles north of Evergreen Community Park.

It's called PYCO School of Music located in Wexford adjacent to the Wexford Plaza, near Whole Foods. They have a recital hall that they offer as a rental space that is available for our group to use on the second Wednesday of each month from 7-9 p.m. It is also the same cost for our group as Evergreen was but with more space, a better sound system and 100 parking spaces on a level parking lot.

The space is 60 ft. long by 30 ft. wide and has a 17 ft. high ceiling to provide great acoustics so everyone will be able to hear our presenters. Set up for our events is included with the rental fee and we have access to a kitchen. The space can accommodate plenty of people (up to 180) and we hope to offer a holiday party this year in this venue as well. We know that change is hard, but sometimes change can mean improvements! We are certain that this new space will work well. Below are a few photos inside the recital hall and the kitchen.

Check out our program page, because we have added in some information for our upcoming programs in the fall!
