Notes from the Chair

It was a trip through the wonderland that is Temecula!  Thanks to Barbara Johns for a great presentation (and to her lovely assistant, Jeff), and thanks to Bernard and Peggy Grandjacques for being such talented hosts.  The food and the wines were delicious!

Most of the wines were donated by The Hart Family Winery, so please visit their website at

Noteworthy Items

In accordance with our new wine glass policy, many of the members received their new wine totes and six glasses.  If you were not in attendance, yours will be distributed at an upcoming tasting.  You have the option to decline the glasses, but we’d like you to have the bag.

The next tasting will be our annual Holiday Party on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.  The event will be at Marty’s Market in the Strip District.  Appetizers at 6:30 and dinner at 7:15.  Keep watching for more details.

You still have time to vote for Member of the Year!  The winner will be announced at the Holiday Party.

The Wines of Temecula

Our tasting this month will be presented by Barbara Johns.  She has been a member of the American Wine Society for 15 years, and previously served 3 years as the Program Chair and Vice President of the Pittsburgh Chapter.

Barbara is also a certified wine judge, having completed the 3-year program through the AWS.  She has also attended a number of wine education classes and conferences, and has participated in a number of wine lectures and wine competitions.

She enjoys wine tasting and touring, and has visited wineries throughout U.S. and overseas in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, (and even China).  But what she enjoys the most about wine is the unique experience that each bottle brings.

Temecula Valley has been growing wine grapes since the late 1700s, but it was another 200 years before the industry truly took hold, gaining AVA status in 1984. Tempered by coastal fog, this warm region is best known for its Italian and Rhône varietals and its annual Balloon and Wine Festival.

Our tasting of the Wines of Temecula will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Evergreen Community Park, 3430 Evergreen Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 at 7:00 pm.  The cost for the event is $10 for members and $15 for guests.  Make your reservations now.  Please respond to:
