Tasting
of January 10, 2013
The
January tasting featured seven wines in alternative packaging. Yes,
the dreaded “box wine”!
In a
blind tasting (which does not mean drink until you’re blind), we
sampled a Moscato, a Riesling, a Malbec, an old vine Zinfandel, a
Pinot Noir, a Shiraz, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. All of the wines came in three liter boxes, which are the equivalent of four standard
sized bottles.
As has
been our tradition since the late fifties, we voted at the end of the
tasting and the favorite wine was the Bota Box Old Vine Zinfandel,
followed closely by the Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon.
All of
the wines are available at your local Fine Wines and Spirits stores.
The price list is below, with the PLCB code numbers. As a side note,
we tried to purchase the Fish Eye Moscato at the Perry Shops on
Perrysville Avenue, and they only had ONE left!
